AN

A day in the feast, at Eanna, the largest temple in ancient history, in the city of Uruk, the capital of the Sumerians. Young priests drive away evil spirits with fragrant incense in their hands as the people gathered in the courtyard of the temple accompany the songs of the priests by playing Algarsur, zami, arkammi, galgalturi and pukku. The king enters the courtyard with his entourage, and there is silence. With the prayer of the high priest, the doors of the inner rooms of the temple are opened one by one.

The abbot at the front, the king and his entourage following him, and the people at the back reach the door of the main room. As the high priest begins to pray for all the gods in the sky, the two wings of the door open slowly and sunlight falls on the magnificent statue of AN, the father of the gods in the sky. As the scent of irises, violets and freesias in front of AN circulates in the inner chambers of the temple, everyone bows respectfully to him. As if it is a day in the feast…
